Chinese Sister - Hua Mulan

A Chinese poem, written during the period of the Northern Dynasties (AD 420-589), tells the story of Hua Mulan. The 1998 Disney film Mulan is based on this same story.

By royal command one man from every family must join the Chinese army to fight against the invading Hun. Mulan has no brothers and her beloved father is too old for war. She decides that the only way out is to join the army herself. Mulan cuts her hair, dresses as a soldier and leaves behind her grieving parents.

Mulan proves to be a brave and disciplined warrior. None of her male companions guesses that she is a woman in disguise. Her bold and selfless acts of courage bring victory to her country and honour to her family.
